Winter Morning

"Winter Morning Poem" by Ogden Nash

Winter is the king of showmen
Turning tree stumps into snow men
And houses into birthday cakes
And spreading sugar over lakes
Smooth and clean and frosty white
The world looks good enough to bite
That's the season to be young
Catching snowflakes on your tongue
Snow is snowy when it's snowing
I'm sorry it's slushy when it's going

River of Gold

This scene was done from a photograph taken at a different time of day than this painting depicts. Every once in a while I'm compelled to "create" an entirely different likeness than what stands before me. Maybe the "real artist" is coming out!

Bird's Eye View

This is a view we enjoyed when traveling the Pacific Coast Hwy in California last fall. There is beautiful little restaurant at a spot called Nepenthe where people can sit and enjoy a meal while watching the Condors. Being there was like being in a dream state -- breathtaking views while soaring high over the edge of the earth. I definitely want to go back!

Matt. 7:7

Ask and it will be given to you, seek and you shall find, knock and the door shall be opened unto you. For whoever asks, receives. Whoever seeks shall find. This verse is so relevant in my life right now. And I'm sure in the lives of many people.

This painting is quite large compared to most I've done. Its unframed size is 30"x40". I've been nudged to create larger works, which is contrary to what many artists say are selling these days. In the wake of the economic downturn, people still want original works of art, but may be more inclined to buy smaller pieces which may be more affordable. And this work may look familiar. I finally painted the large version from a smaller study I had done a couple of years ago. I love the serene colors in this painting!

21 Degrees

It has been a long time since I've had the chance to paint in new-fallen snow! It was beautiful outside, but co-o-o-old! Painting at 21 degrees really forced me to be fast and loose -- something I've been working on, but haven't quite gotten the hang of. My oil paints started thickening the moment I put a brush in them. As you can see, we didn't have a lot of snow, but I made the most of the icy conditions. We drew the attention of some children playing in the park nearby. They were fascinated that we would be painting in the cold, and I can only imagine them going to school today with the story. How many people actually believe that crazy artists will paint in any weather?!

Newborn Promise

Happy New Year! Happy New Life! Everyone I know uses the beginning of another year as an opportunity to make new promises for improving themselves, or for making changes for the better. We should really be living each day in that mindset! The title for this painting is appropriate for the start of the new year. It was inspired by my daughter-in-law and new grand-daughter -- another new beginning!

And, speaking of new beginnings, I'm pleased to announce that my work can now be found at DCF Art Gallery and Gifts in Grosse Pointe Woods, MI. It's a wonderful gallery and custom frame shop. I'm looking forward to a long and happy relationship!

Fluid Movement

I love the feeling I get from this painting! Such vibrant joy and youthful enthusiasm! I was tempted to call it "The Wave" but was afraid it might invoke memories of football games. That would be another painting...

Merry Christmas!

In the hustle and bustle of this busy season, please take a moment to say a prayer for peace in the world. There is so much hardship, and heartache, in the world. I've had my share this year, but it doesn't compare to that of so many people. I have been blessed by your friendship. Thank you for being there! I wish you and yours a very Merry Christmas, and all the best in the coming year.
